If I dont rent from my realtor and go straight to an apartment complex...?

and just rent from them, without help from him in finding it and not even telling him about it yet.. can he charge me anything?

he has just showed me like 3 different apartments.. and i dont really understand anything about the realty business i just wanted some help finding an apartment.

  1. Most realty agents help you for free. They want to win you as a future client.  Even if they get a finders-fee it may be $50 (higher in NYC).  It would be possible that you agreed to pay your agent to help you.  You would know if you did.  You could have said 'Help me find a place and i'll pay you ___".  Did you.


  2. It all depends on what it says in the contract you signed.  Nobody can answer this question without seeing the contract.

  3. The renter (you) doesn't typically pay the realtor, the landlord does.  The apartment complex won't pay him anything since he didn't bring you to them, and you won't owe him anything either.  Just tell him you've decided to rent a place on your own, thanks for the help but you prefer a complex you found on your own.
