I am 31 weeks pregnant, and I have done plenty of reading and searching and asking the doctor, but I was curious to see if there were any other prego's out there that could give me there opinion. I drink a soda (not diet) , probably once a week. Is this harmful to my baby. I have read that as long as you do not drink an excessive amount, and don't go past 2 cups of coffee a day your fine. well i don't drink coffee, so i drink soda. Sometimes I just need a little caffiene. Any thoughts. It's not like Im smoking, or drinking alcohol. So far all my tests have come back normal and everything looks fine. Should I be worried?

  1. Nawwww you are perfectly fine and more importantly so is your Bay-Buh.  A little of caffeine is perfectly fine, as you said just not in excessive amounts. I'm sure you could even drink a cup a day without doing any damage, although I'm not a doctor nor am I pregnant. You should be fine! Hope that helps.

  2. You can safely have 200 mgs a day and that is the equivalent of 2 cups brewed coffee or 8 cans of soda! I just can't give up caffeine when I am pregnant. I am currently enjoying a coke! High amounts can accelerate your baby's heart rate too high, but if you space it out during the day you are fine. Just don't drink a whole pot of coffee at once or energy drinks! :) Congrats!

  3. I don't think you have to worry about one or two sodas or having an occasional cup of coffee. There are pregnant women who do far worse than that and still have normal babies. However, I would be very careful that you don't find yourself increasing your soda or caffeine.

  4. lol, no dun be worry, nothing like soda once per wk will be harmful to baby, just dun do like 4 liters per day and u'll be fine

  5. Probably won't hurt but why risk it?

  6. no i think evrrything will be fine but maybe cut buck just a little bit like a cuple times a month or something, just to be safe. but i dont think there is anything to worry about. GOD BLESS!!!!<3

  7. Everything in moderation is ok

  8. Uh no, lol.  You're fine sweetie.

  9. You are fine. By the end of my pregnancy I was drinking 2-3 cans a week just to keep myself awake at work. I have read you can have 150mg of caffiene a day. A can of mountain dew has 55mg. I didnt drink any during my first 2 trimesters because of all the developement that was going on. My baby is 6 weeks old and doing great. He sleeps well and has been above average in all of his growth measurements. Good luck and dont worry.

  10. My husband asked my doctor about this because I drink soda with every meal and he said it was fine unless you drink a lot of caffeine

Still my husband makes me drink Sprite or Caffeine free Pepsi or Caffeine free Dr. Pepper ... Not diet though cos Diet soda has caffeine and makes my teeth hurt plus the diet sugar is not very good for pregnancy ...

Btw my doc says you can drink up to 2 caffeine sodas a day and you will be fine ...

i NEED caffeine or I will be a grouch all day!

  11. i don't even pay attention to my caffine intake i have at least one soda a day and my first came out perfect but they do say that if you drink and exorbitant amt it will make you go into preterm labor. good luck

  12. You should not be worried at all. As long as your not drinling an excess amount like you say your not, it will be fine. My sister drank mt. dew everyday sometimes twice a day and her son came out perfectly fine 7 1/2 lbs and healty. Yuo shouldnt worry about that what so ever. Good luck with everything

  13. Haha, NO!  Soda is fine!  I had 2 cans a day of diet and my babies were perfect.

  14. I think you are fine. It's good to be so careful. One soda a week is not harming your baby, most likely. If your not getting heart burn there shouldn't be any reason to be concerned.

  15. If you are only drinking 1 - 2 cans a week, you are fine.  You can technically drink a cup of caffeinated coffee a day, so one soda a week is not going to harm your baby.

I drink iced tea when I go out to eat - it still has some caffeine, but not much.  No big deal.

  16. One soda per week is nothing. LOL

I drink a Diet Coke (which still has caffeine in it, although it is diet) about once every 2 or 3 days. I am 16 weeks pregnant today. My doctor says that is fine. An excessive amount would be more than 2 per day, just like more than 2 cups of coffee per day. When I was pregnant with my daughter, I drank a soda once a day and she turned out fine!

  17. I've read that the highest recommened dose of caffiene is a cup a day so if you're only allowing yourself a cup a week, you should be fine. You have nothing to worry about if your tests are coming back normal. Its more when the kid is a few years old and addicted to soda that you have to worry. :)

  18. I think you and the baby are fine at one soda a week, heck that really is nothing at all.

  19. If I were you - I would be more worried about the High-Fructose Corn Syrup that most commercial sodas contain, rather than a minute amount of caffeine. While caffeine has been linked to miscarriage in first and early second trimester pregnancies, generally by the third trimester you are okay to handle a small amount.

However, High Fructose Corn Syrup has been linked to an increased risk of Type II Diabetes, particularly in young children. I would suggest avoiding sodas that contain High Fructose Corn Syrup in favor of natural sugar sweeteners or juice. And definitely watch out for any artificial sweeteners.

    Good luck and Congratulations!

  20. My doctor even told me that she drank 1 can of mountain dew a day when she was pregnant.  she said unless it's an excessive amount every day its fine.

  21. your fine. my doctor told me I could have up to 16 oz. of caffeine a day!

  22. No problem.  Sounds like you're doing a great job.

  23. No you will be fine. Its okay to drink a little caffeine while you are pregnant.

  24. I did exactly the same thing when I was pregnant, and both my children are healthy.  I am glad that you drink regular soda because the fake sugar is not good for the baby.

  25. You should be fine. I drank soda every day through both of my pregnancies. Both of my children are healthy and so am I.

  26. You shouldn't be worried. Caffeine, especially in coffee, can help with the digestive system during pregnancy. And all of us mothers know you'll have plenty of digestive problems. The only bad thing about soda is the sugar, and being that you put on weight when you're pregnant, the sugar intake from the sodas may contribute to additional weight gained. Other than that, no harm done. Hope everything turns out great!

  27. No worries.  I drank about 2-3 cups of caffeine (sodas or coffee) a week all throughout my pregnancy and my baby is fine.
