Question:

If I drive a pipe into the ground, where I believe there is a fresh water spring, will the water come out.?

I bought some land, and on a few of the inclines, I have soft wet spots, which I believe to be an underground spring. I'm out in the country, so I know there a no water lines buried out here.

  1. Yes, if there is a spring and you put the pipe in the spring on a hill side so the water will drain out under gravity. You can get a slow flow of water. I have seen this done on hiking trails so hikers can have drinking water.

  2. You got to find out how deep you need to go.. Here in some parts of the south you can actually hand dig a well..  Water is only down 12 to 15 feet..  You have to talk to a well digger

  3. you have to drive a well point into the ground, after you find water, you have to hook the pipe to a electric pump, which also has a holding tank, a pipe supply store can help you

  4. Only if what you beleive is also a reality, and the spring has enough pressure... also if there is no pressure but a high enough flow rate, a pipe angled upward to the source will give more water than one pointed straight down.

  5. call a local well drilling service and ask if they can tell you what will happen. if you drive the pipe down in. it may just gush out the top and if you put a faucet on it, which i assume you're gonna do, there's no guarantee that it'll be enough pressure to suck the water up the pipe every time but the initial time.. you should have land surveyed too to see if there IS a spring and if so, make sure no limestone foundation above it, preventing any piping.

  6. If you have water coming out of that pipe at least don't forget to have it tested before you use it. One never knows.

  7. Without knowing the arrangement of the soil layers and the pressure on the water will make this impossible for someone to answer.  If you have a clayey soil maybe water just doesn't sink into the soil leaving a marshy surface?  Maybe the water is traveling in a porous layer and not coming from directly below you?  If you do have an artesian well (artesian means that there is enough pressure to force the water our of a pipe like you mention) water should come out.  If water is there..but there is no pressure you might just be able to dig a well and have to pump the water out (by bucket or more modern means..)

Look for a geologic survey in the area.  Do your neighbors have wells? maybe when they were drilled data was collected about the layers of earth, to know how deep and the quality of the aquifer.

  8. When you drive the pipe in, the pipe becomes blocked with soil

dig a trench untill you get yto clear water .then put a pipe about halfway in and fill the trench up again with stones ,cover these with plastic or zing and close the whole thing with soil leaving the pipe sticking out

connect that to a pond, dam ,reservoir or tank.

If it is a bit deeper but still close to the surface ,dig and build a  well .

or get a simple drilling rig for shallow depths and put a hand pump in

Like people have been doing for centuries

  9. You might end up with a well.

  10. What no one has mentioned here is the possibility of contamination.

It is very possible that your ideas are sound and plausible, but if inserting the pipe improperly leaves you with a contaminated water source, then you have not accomplished much.

Hire a professional well service. They will be able to satisfy all your questions and if it is possible to tap this water supply, they will be able to do it properly so that you can avoid the possibility of contamination.

If the water is coming to the surface naturally, then there will actually be very little drilling necessary. Well drilling charges by the foot, so it seems you might have a gold mine right there. Keep it clean.
