I've never done this drying thing, but I want to be able to keep the rose and have it on a page of my scrapbook, its a big beautiful pink rose. I read that drying it between sheets of wax paper and putting it under a book will work then you can iron the sheets together.... So its kind of two questions together, is this a good idea and does it work, and if i do will it keep the pink color?

Thanks so much!

  1. i have never hared of that but it sounds like it would work i always spray mine with hair spray and let it hang up side down untill it is dry then close it in a book

    hope this helps

  2. Light is what causes most of the fading for flowers, so pressing it in a book helps keep it in the dark and prolongs color.  Reds are the quickest to fade, but if you keep it pressed in a book it helps keep the color longer (as long as you keep the book closed. :)  If you really want to preserve the color, you can get a UV protectant clear spray after it's dried.  These are found at art/craft stores, and may be used on photographs, art, or anything else that has a tendancy to fade.  It's like sunscreen.

I've had years of experience with drying and pressing flowers, and roses are not your best pick for directly pressing.  They will never lie completely flat, especially if it's a big gorgeous rose.  Your best bet for commemorating a special rose is to photograph it in natural sunlight when it's at it's peak.  Have the photos printed to life size (5x7) and cut the rose out to use on your page.  It's also a really cool photo technique to use your scanner to preserve it at it's fullest.

If you still want to preserve the actual rose, when it begins to wilt, go ahead and pluck the petals off and press the petals individually.  You can then re-assemble a rose shape from the dried flat petals, or just scatter them on your scrapbook page.

Part of the beauty of a real flower is that it's not permanent...just a fleeting moment of absolute beauty. ;)

  3. yes it does

  4. No hang it up side down to dry then put the was paper on.

  5. Well i would buy two more pink roses and try both and see wich works.....

  6. yes it will or you can hang them upside down if they still have the stems on them (once their dried then you can put them in a antique vase) Very Cool.

  7. Hang it a dry dark place-upside down.

You can tie string around it-stick a thumb tac through it-what ever-how ever you want to hang it upside down.

Personally-when ever I do this-I stick it in a corner of my closet-because that guarentees that it will be dark in there.

Give it a couple of days. I usually check on it once a day. When the petals start to feel VERY flimsy and almost like a tissure paper thin-you are good to go.

Hanging them upside down helps them keep the color.

THEN I put them between wax paper. You can also use parchment paper, or even a simple photo album. I ALWAYS tape up the sides of whatever I am using though. Just to make sure that ALL of the air stays out.

    GOOD LUCK!

    Hope it turns out beautiful.

  8. That's how I saved my wrist corsage from my senior prom 20+ yrs ago.

  9. ive done it just by putting the rose in a big book shutting it and checking back on it in a few weeks, it will get a lil darker but you can still tell its pink wont be the same pink though
