  1. Dying your hair black is pretty much hair suicide if you choose to dye it lighter later on, trust me. In order to lift the color, you will have to end up bleaching the entire thing which will extremely dry it out and potentially damage it. On the other hand, if you're absolutely sure that you could live with black hair until it grows out, I'd say go ahead. There is a big chance that it will fade to a dark brown color though, since you have light brown hair right now. You might have to dye it a couple times to ensure that it stays black.

I used to dye my hair black, and to be honest, I did like it a lot. I thought that it would help me keep my hair healthy because I was so used to dying it so much, and that way I would have no choice but to leave it black. I now have brown/dark brown hair, after waiting months for it to somewhat fade then I started off slow with highlights, and some light brown dye. Unfortunately, my hair didn't take the dye in anywhere but my roots, so the rest of my hair was still black. It took a lot of work to get it to what it is now, yet a little black is still noticable. It has, unfortunately, dried out a lot more.

Moral of the story: Once you go black, you can never go back.. unless you're willing to damage your hair!

  2. If you bleach it first, You can.

  3. my hair is naturally dark brown and I dyed it quite a while back jet black.  When i got bored of the black and wanted to dye it back I went to the hair salon and asked them what it would involve.  Basically they have to strip the color from your hair which can be very damaging.  I chose to just let it grow out until it was at a length I felt comfortable cutting out the black part.

Don't over-process your hair.  If you're anything like me, you want to have healthy shiny hair, too much dye and you'll wreck it.

  4. if its permanent dye u will have to get a color remover and then dye it whatever color you want......maybe if its not perrmanet it will wash out and fade through time, but black dye is something you cant dye over top of....you will have to get the color removed b4 dyeing it a new color

  5. You won't be able to put a lighter color on top of it after, like you would if your hair was light brown or medium shade. But if you bleach the black out and then dye it again it'll be fine. It's just hair anyway, if it doesn't lighten immediately it'll grow out.

  6. yes you can, but it will take time

  7. yes, you will be able too.

    but nothing drastic right away.

from black- you have to go to a dark brown

then medium brown, then light brown.

and once you hair is light enough.

    you can dye it whatever.

but it will take at least 2 more dye jobs to get rid of the black

  8. I've done mine black and you basically have to wait for it to grow out, fade enough that you can redye it lighter, or bleach it out. It's not easy to change from black to anything else. My hair was short so it grew out in 6 months... maybe try one that's only made to stay in a few days to see if you really want to go black. :)

  9. well...it's just REALLY hard to dye ur hair to another colour if you dye it black.. thats all but you can still dye but its an ordeal...

  13. you will be able to dye it back all you would have to do is dye it blonde then wait a couple days and do it again but make sure you use the same kind of dye it wont be that hard after all its not rocket science like everyone else thinks it is

  14. yes you can, maybe some dyes wont be able to cover it up, but you can always get it bleached.

  15. Yes you will be able to.  However, only after the color has faded some or has grown out. If you don't like it you won't be able to correct it right away.  Good luck!
