I have a collection agency calling me chasing a debt from 2003. I have recieved no paperwork however they tell me that they have mailed it to me today. These guys even phoned my ex husband and got him to call me with them on the other line thinking I would talk to them which I seem to think is illegal. Anyways I offered them $100pw which I can't even afford as single mum 4 kids and only means of income is single mothers pension and child support. This guy from creditcorp tried to blackmail me and said you agree now to the $100 pw otherwise tomorrow I can no loonger offer this to you and you will go to court. I told him you can't get blood out of a stone I don't own a thing and I don't work so goodluck! Can firstly they pressure me into a payment arrangement when I don't even know what the debt is for as I have no paperwork and can a court garnish child support of social security payments?

  1. If you get that call again give this guy absolutely no information.I truly hope you did not give out your SS number!

Ask for his full name and phone number. Also get the company he is working for.Call the Better Business Bureau or your state attorney general to find out if he is for real. This could be someone looking for you personal information to open an account in your name.

You can also notify your local police if their information is questionable and they may know something about him already.

If people don't report these things Identity Fraud will continue!

Please protect yourself by being proactive and watch any accounts you have closely.

  2. Wrong Section.....but thats not your fault

only a judge can garnish your SSI....No they have to tell you what the debt is and yes child support could be taken from your SSI

  3. Why would you offer $100 if you did not know that you had debt from 2003?  Either you are lying and do know about the debt, or you are really thick.  To answer your question (which is in the wrong section), it all depends on the country you live in.  Here in the states it is illegal for a creditor to harass people that are in collection.

  4. NO they cant! They cant garnish SS and child support as you need that for kids and you to live.

But here is a novel idea, its called a job!!!! That way us taxpayers dont always have to bail everyone out. BTW, they do have affordable child care cheap enough so that you can work, so thats not a valid excuse!
