Thanks guys! I picked about half a dozen and stuffed them with a mixture of goat's cheese and cream cheese. I battered them with cornmeal and shallow fried them-mmmmm.......

  1. as long as they are the male flowers, yes

  2. On summer squash plants, only the female flowers produce squashes.  It's easy to tell the male flowers from the female flowers:  the male flowers will be attached to the plant by a thin stalk, while the female flowers will have a squash embryo behind the blossom.  It will look like a small squash.

Both the male and female flowers can be eaten.  But if you eat all the flowers, you won't get any mature squash.  If you eat all the male flowers, the female flowers will not be pollinated and their little embryo squashes will wither and fall off.

So enjoy the blossoms, but just don't eat all of them if you want some mature squashes to eat.
