  1. I haven't heard of any obvious resolution advantages with PAL cameras (though PAL cameras do have slightly more pixels). Now, whether you shoot and edit in NTSC or PAL depends on where you live. If you live in the US, Canada, Mexico, Central America, Taiwan, the Philippines, Korea, Japan, and several others, you'll be working in NTSC. If you live in Europe, Australia, or China, you are in the PAL system.

They are totally different systems. If you buy a camcorder in the US, it'll work in the NTSC system, so you should always edit from that camcorder in NTSC. A camcorder from the UK will be a PAL camcorder, so you'd edit in PAL. Some camcorders are NTSC/PAL switchable, but that's an entirely different story.

So the matter of whether to edit in PAL or NTSC isn't a matter of quality or preference, it's a matter of system. So, in short, your average DVD player from the US will NOT play PAL footage, however, there are some DVD players that can do both. But if you have an NTSC camcorder, you must edit it in NTSC.

So, I hope that helps, and good luck!
