  1. If you're married yes if not no. Your only other option is reserve.

Nazgul, your a vet of Iraqi Freedom?

    What was your MOS?

Yea I know what it is I was just wondering if you were a vet of Iraqi Freedom thats all.

  2. You have to be an A-4 or up in order to be allowed to, or married, they wont give you a housing allowance other wise, and if your not married and only A-4, you only get half of the usual housing allowance. They're trying to update that though in the next year or two I hear. But if your not that rank yet, you CAN get in trouble if they find out your living off base, one of my husband's friends got in trouble when he was an A-3 and lived offbase. But when you finally hit A-4 and your going to, best advice also is to live with roommates, you'll be able to get a better place that way more then likly

  3. When you get enough rank or when your commander gives you permission, prob will not get housing unless you move off base with rank. Things do change I have been out for years.

    Vet-USAF

@dded : Air Force is an AFSC (Air Force Specialty Code) / Cold war vet > Cold war has been over for years before Iraq

  4. There is no blanket answer. It depends on your marital status, rank, population density in the barracks (I refuse to call 'em dorms) and whether your CO wants to let you. We generally kept the newest single Airmen on base unless there was a severe shortage of rooms. Married troops live off base (until they can get base housing) unless there's major problem. Your AFSC has nothing to do with it.

  5. You can always live off base.  However, you will need to be married or have your COs permission to get a full housing allowance.

  6. If you are single you will live in the barracks. Once you reach the rank of E-4/E-5 you can ask permission to live off-base.  It is at command discretion.  Your AFSC has nothing to do with your housing situation.

Married personnel have the choice of living on or off-base

  7. yes  but why would you want to?  theres always field day, okinawa field days, inspecitions higher ncos and brass ready to chew your *** on the weekends when your on fire watch, forgot to shave.....on a lighter side the free food, bills, and housing is a plus.

  8. I was able to move off base as an E-3 but my base was short on dorm room due to asbestos.

I ghosted before that.  You won't get in trouble like the one girl said, as long as

    1.  Your supervisor has your correct contact information.

    2.  You show up to work on time.

    3.  You stay on top of your bills.

If you don't do that, they can and will order you to live on base.
