Question:

If I filed an amended return, will I get a stimulus check?

My original 1040 said I could be claimed as a dependent, which was a mistake. That mistake prevented me from getting a stimulus check. I filed a 1040x to correct this. I still havent received my updated refund, nor my stimulus. Will I even get a stimulus check? next year?

  1. The amended return will not "fix" this for stimulus purposes.

You will have to wait until you file your 2008 return and perhaps you will qualify then.

  2. Takes about 12 weeks for your refund on an ammended return.  If you are owed a stimulas refund you will get it next year.

  3. No, the stimulus checks are based on your status on your original return, so you aren't eligible.  If it gives you an extra refund amount, you'll get that though.

If you make enough in 2008 to owe any tax, you'll probably get a tax break next year when you file - not a separate check, but will owe less tax/get a bigger refund.
