If I gain college credit in high school, will colleges see that as a good thing?

There are some classes that i'm looking at for next year [I couldn't get them as a freshman in high school] and if you get at least a B or something, you can use the class as college credit. Will this make colleges look at my record/whatever better, or will they disregard it and only look for honors/AP classes, good grades and test scores, etc.

  1. This will absolutely be a positive on your college applications.  First of all, you're demonstrating yourself to be capable of collegiate-level academic work.  In addition, and perhaps more importantly, you are also showing that you are willing to accept challenges, because you took a course that was more rigorous than what was required of you.

When I was in high school, I also took honors courses, AP courses, and dual enrollment courses (offered from the local community college).  After the honors courses, I'd take the CLEP exams in the respective subjects, and earn college credit that way.  When I entered college, I arrived with so many credits that I had advanced standing--I was classified as a university sophomore.  As a result, I graduated one year early and saved thousands of dollars... which is also a plus!

Best of luck to you with your studies!!!

  2. yeah it looks good but it doesn't matter your grade but whether or not u pass the ap exam

  3. Yea it looks great. I actually did the same thing by taking college classes in high school. Just for doing this, my college gave me a scholarship. I did not know this until I saw my tuition bill before freshmen year of college began.

Also what made it so worth it (depends what class you are taking) is that I was exempted from a requirement class since I took that class in HS. So while my classmates are complaining about the prof. in that class, I am just relaxing knowing that i am a step ahead.

Yea, college will see that as a good thing. Just make sure you do well in that class. Not only will they see it as a positive, you would be saving lots of money, and would have 1 or more classes over with before entering college.
