If I get US citizenship, can I be randomly enrolled in US army (If overage)?

I'm 12, Canadian and want to go to NY when I'm old. PLZ HELP!

  1. No there is no draft so you will not have to go in the Army unless you want to.


  2. Well, there's no such thing as "random enrollment," but the US does have a draft system *edit* but it must be activated, it is not always active.

    I don't know all the specifics, only that it hasn't been used in something like 40 or 50 years, and that if it were to be used again, the rules and regs would have to be updated extensively.

    Also, according to the old rules (and presumably the future ones), women, men over a certain age, and (I believe, don't hold me to it) male children who are the sole carriers of a family name cannot be drafted, in addition to all other terms of service (which of course can be waived by the Army at any time).

  3. As of now the military in the United States is strictly on a volunteer basis. In the 70s during Vietnam there was a forced draft. This includes all citizens. After the age of 36, however, the chances of you being drafted are nearly impossible, unless of course there is a major major major war, think WW3.

    You should be fine.
