If I get Verizon FIOS, do they rip out all the copper phone and cable wires out of my house?

How long does the installation process take? Is it really worth it compared to Comcast? Can you ever go back?

  1. They do as little labor as needed to do installations.  Cable extractions only occur if there is a serious space or signal interference issue.

What I expect is that most installations, the fiber will just follow the phone lines and be place right next to or into the same interior outlet box you have already.  They will probably put in a new cover to handle the fiber connector.

IMO, Comcast, AT&T and Verizon are fighting over a dying market.  I see hard wired / cable internet service dead in a few years.

WiMax is getting very hot.  Eventually, the only hard wire service coming into a house in ten years is power with everything else being wireless.

  2. Verizon is absolutly worth it.  Firstly, your internet speed will be 5-25 times faster than comcast.  Secondly, Comcast is not only buggy, but their customer support is atrocious.  Verizon, on the other hand, is very focused on customer service.

From what I heat FIOS will be the first provider to offer tv in full HD 1080p, which is neat.

The installers will not rip the cables out of your house,  they are there to install, not uninstall.

  3. You will get a new fiber drop from the pole to your home

You will get a new ONT to convert the signal for your home

You will get a battery back up unit so you if you loose power, you will still have dial tone on a non cordless phone

You will get a new router to split the signal between the computer and TV that will also give you your img, access to on demand, ppv

You will also get new remotes for each stb you have ordered

The Verizon FIOS Tech will bring you everything you need and explain how to use each system.

The install will take between 4 - 6 hours.
