Question:

If I get a mailbox in Beverly Hills for my business, do I have to pay Beverly Hills' business tax?

I have a home-based business in LA County (across the street from Bev. Hills) and I need to rent a mailbox for that business. There is a mailbox rental place close by, but it's across the jurisdictional line between LA and Bev. Hills.

No business activity would be done in Beverly Hills, save for gathering mail at the mailbox rental place.

Does anyone know if I would need to register with Beverly Hills and pay their minimum business tax (anywhere from $200-$1200/yr) just for getting a mailbox?

Thx in advance!

  1. check with your post office and post box rental outlets like ups stores, fed ex, etc.they should be able to give you the info you need.

  2. Use of an off-site mail drop is not a determining factor when business taxes are imposed.  The "actual" location of the business determines the applicability of the fee.

    Good luck!

  3. I do not think they allow you to get a PO Box in a city where you do not live or have a business anymore.  Everyone was doing that.  When I got my PO Box, I had to show them proof of residency, so I think you might have to pay the business tax and go through the process of getting a business license, etc.
