I live in America and want to move to Australia. I read about the work and holiday visa which allows temporary employment in Australia. If an employer in Australia wants to keep me, could they offer me permanent employment or sponsor me for citizenship?

  1. an employer must advertise the position to australians first so unless you are highly skilled and australians cant fill the position there isnt much chance of that

anyway you need to apply for immigration from your home country, and need to be skilled in an occupation australia needs

you must also pass a points test, medical, criminal check

  2. The change of visa's is very complex.

You need to view the Australian web site

    http://www.immi.gov.au/index.htm

  3. unless they have recently changed the agreement between the united states and australia, getting a work visa for an american is not such a simple thing.  if an australian employer wants to hire you permanently they must demonstrate that you have a unique talent or skill that fits the requirements of the job that a native australian would not readily be able to do at the same level.

good luck with your pursuit of gainful employment in oz!

  4. There are sponsorship options for employers on a 457 for temporary residency and then employers can emigrate you but it does depend on the company and your profession.  For instance in demand professions are much easier, like nurses and accountants.

You can also get PR yourself, which leads to citizenship, by applying through the points system.
