Question:

If I get hang up calls can I file a police report?

My sisters ex boyfriend calls sometimes, he is trying to get a hold of her. He just called pretending to be a rep from Jet Blue. I said bye and hung up then he called back 3 seconds later and just hung up.

Can I file a police report if this happens more than once?

I don't have caller ID to see for sure who is calling but he has used this behavior in the past.

Would it be more beneficial to file a police report and then they can find out who is calling for sure?

Or would getting caller ID be better so I know its him?

  1. Its gonna be hard to prove unless you can somehow get the call records from your phone provider.  Getting caller ID and paying the extra on the monthly bill would be better and easier.  If he keeps calling, you can keep a record of it or just show the caller ID itself.

Also, if you do not want him calling anymore, then have a block put on the main number he calls from.  It will cost a few dollars but it will keep him from calling (assuming he is not welcome to call your house) for the most part.  He can call from another number, such as his cell phone or friend's phone.

The next time this happens and he talks to your sister, I would make it very clear to your sis that he is to stop that behavior or he will not be allowed to call anymore....and follow through.

You can file a police report (assuming you get caller ID) if he keeps calling constantly throughout the day and for several weeks as this constitutes harrassment.  Do not erase the calls off the ID unit and make sure to show the police where he has called.  If you still have any questions, contact your provider and they should be able to answer your questions.

  2. Getting a caller ID is always good, but if he is that desparate to talk to you sister then he surely will block his number from apearing on you phone screen.

Most phone companies can help you with this if it happens more than one or two times by blocking the number.

The best thing to do is get in touch with police and discuss the matter.
