Hi, I'm joining the Army, I know they give you good deals on Life insurance, but lets say I get captured or something and go MIA and theres no trace of me. Does my family still get the money?

  1. I believe it takes seven years after a disappearance before someone missing is deemed dead.

  2. That depends somewhat on how the Army writes it up.  If they list you as "missing and presumed dead", they will get the money.  If they just list you as missing, it could take a few years.  Generally, in a missing persons case, the family will petition the court to have the person pronounced legally dead after five years so the insurance can be forced to pay.
