I want to go somewhere safe of course, where I can meet locals, have a cup of coffee, relax, have a good meal, enjoy the scenery and the atmosphere. Any suggestions?

  1. The Charles Dugall Airport.  Sit and have a cup of coffee as your waiting for your flight back to the United States.

  2. I went to france alone (well and then met up with a couple of friends living in different towns....but i generally traveled alone and since they had to work, went out about town on my own too sometimes). It can be very fun, especially meeting cool people.

Obviously, paris is always a good choice. there is so much to do there and see and so many different people.

I would also recommend Poitiers, it's a great town, a university kind of town with a lot of hisotry. there are many young people and lots to do. coffeeshops are great, people are very friendly. it also has diversity, since many exchang programs take place there.

I likes bourges too. it is in the loire valley. BUT it's small..and i suggest going there for only a day or two. it is very very very cute...and with cool history. but you will be bored after 2 days.

But if you are in teh loire valley, you can just hop around to the crazy amount of castles they have there. I went to ambiose, which is a charming town (leonardo da vinci lived there and is buried in the castle too).

If you want to meet nice young people, stay at hostles. France is full of great people and great things to do and see. Don' just stick to paris or provence and other southern tourist spots. the smaller cities and little towns have major charms.

  3. My favorite evening hangout in Paris is a place called Aux Trois Mailletz at 56 rue Galand in the 5th arrondissement.

They have good (although not spectacular)  food at reasonable prices. You can also just sit down with a glass of wine and listen to the piano player and various singers (jazz, stnadards and even some opera)

(One caveat is that they don't serve cofee)

Its a friendly crowd that is a mix of locals and visitors and its easy to strick up a pleasant conversation.

  4. i live on france  border

    stay with  me  awhile

  5. If you go to France, rent a car and visit Germany. You will have a better time. Remember, and I don't know the reason for this but, we helped France beat the Germans and now France hates Americans and Germans love us. Go figure.
