The lucky prick actually won and doubled his net worth. So theres always a chance you'll win. In fact, on any given night there will be alot of big winners in any casino. Its just on balance there are more big losers than big winners.

Last year there was a man who made such a bet.  He liquidated everything he owned and raised about $135,000.  His plan was to wager it on an even-money bet at roulette and either win or lose.  If he lost, he would have nothing, but that is still a lot more than many people have, who are deep in debt.  If he won he would be in good shape.  He sold everything, including his clothes.  

Actually, before he made the bet he sold his story to a television program that promised to pay him an equal amount ($135,000) whether he won or lost.

He won the bet and, with the income from the TV show, he had $405,000 (before taxes).

If you try something similar, you are unlikely to get the same TV deal because it's already been done.  The odds of you losing it all are higher than your odds of doubling your money.

On the other hand, if you save part of your income and invest it wisely, you could have enough money to retire in comfort by the time you are 50 years old.

you're best bet is to save (not gamble everything you've worked for) $5,000 or more and go to a blackjack table, bet it only once, if you win walk with 10-15k if not just walk away from the table, i've done this once with $500 and I got a blackjack for $1500 i didnt continue to play and wager the money i just took it and ran, easiest $1000 i made, of course i coulda lost the $500 (lost almost all the $1000 now of course the house always wins in the long run)
