This is a serious question. They do it as respect for each other. But I know in islam you bow to Allah in worship. I wouldn't want to seem arrogant but if it's against my religion I wont do it.

  1. I see a big problem with bowing to anyone but Allah, be it for respect or not. We do not bow to anyone but Allah and that's it, not even if you're intentions are clear. I do martial arts and we explain to them that we cannot bow because we do not bow to anyone other than God, and they understand. Shaking hands with the opposite s*x is showing respect in the American culture, does that mean you shake their hands? In France, many people kiss each others cheeks, does that mean you should do it to show "respect"? Bowing to anyone other than Allah is disrespect. You can just explain it to them and they will understand, the same as you would explain to an American man that you are not allowed to shake hands with the opposite s*x.

  2. why should we make them pleased with us and disobey Allah (swt)?

    Edit:

i would show them respect as a Muslim.

  3. oh come ooon

that's not bowing, that's just a little inclinations for respect.

  4. you are bowing for respect, it is not like you are worshiping them.

and besides, allah knows your intensions.

  5. hah. are you a guy or a girl?

dudes bow with their hands to the side.

chicks bow with their hands in front.

    i thinkkk...

    i fforget.

and the lower you bow  and i think the longer you bow?

    the more respectful.

and you have to keep your back straight.

not like straight up and down, but uhh.. flattttt?

    i forget.

    ♡;xx

  6. the Bowing you are talking about is really just a quick head nod.

  7. Are you people for real?!

What is wrong in bowing as a form of respect, it's a cultural thing. It's not like you are worshiping them. It's fine to bow please don't think so extreme, as long as in your heart you are only bowing as respect to each other and nothing more then it is totally fine.

Bowing to a person as respect and fitting into their culture is a toally differnt thing to bowing down to Allah in worship, prayer and respect for him. It's a different type of respect, and they mean two totally differnt things. The people who say no, i think are just being extreme in their thinking.

There's nothing wrong with it. It's ok to do.

  8. Then you will be very rude to a japanese.  The bow is no different from a handshake -- but then you won't shake hands with a woman, will you?  It is a sign of mutual respect (don't forget the other person is bowing to you).  Even the formal bow (kneeling, hands to the floor) is not a bow of obesience, but a sign of deep respect (note: I routinely correct junior students in the dojo who bow by placing the forehead on the mat or on their hands.  The head is to be kept UP, aware of all that is around you).

This is another case of Muslims being intolerant or accepting of other cultures.  It's always your way or no way isn't it?  Is it any wonder that most of the world is on the edge of taking up arms against you?

  9. Yes, it is not polytheism or any act of worship and u are not bowing; its just a simple bending that represents a respectful greeting.

  10. well i dont see any problem in doing that

its not like if u r worshipping them or anything

    its their cultural thing

no problem....its kinda of a respect thing

  11. why wud i wana respect some japanise person for ?

  12. It is a sign of respect. You are not going to get on your knees and pray to them are you?

  13. noooooooo, dont bow to anyone except to Allah swt. Dont care what others think, only do wht pleases Allah swt
