Question:

If I got a rental car and drove a mile home and a mile back to the dealer, do I really need to put gas in it?

  1. You may want to.  Many companies now charge a fuel service charge if you drive the rental less than 75 miles.  It is usually between $12 and $15.  They will waive this fee if you show your gas receipt.

    Call your rental company to see if they charge this type of fee before you decide not to put any gas in it!   Hope this helps.


  2. normally, you should replace any gas you used. in this case, that would be about 0.05 - 0.07 gallons, roughly, so i doubt they'll care much

  3. No.  They really only look to see if the needle shows "Full" and it will not move in two miles...

    When I am heading back to an airport, I usually fill up many miles away, because the stations right near airports have jacked up prices just for the rentals...

  4. As long as the gas gauge didn't move, then NO. Don't put gas in it. Why would you get a rental for that short of a distance though?
