And I was in the top 5% for SAT and ACT, could I get into MIT?

How about other prestigious universities?

BTW, I'm out of state from all of them.

  1. Probably!

    Here's some info for them:

    MIT: http://collegesearch.collegeboard.com/se...

    Yale: http://collegesearch.collegeboard.com/se...

    Harvard: http://collegesearch.collegeboard.com/se...

  2. you'd need a slightly higher GPA for MIT, and it really depends on the score you get for the SATs.

  3. 3.7 isn't that spectacular.  I recommend you taking some AP classes because they boost your GPA.  A 4.0 would look better to those colleges.

  4. So 95th percentile...is that about a 1350 without the writing? If so, that will definitely hurt you if you're looking at any Ivy or at MIT...but it won't keep you out if you've done other really great things.

But you do need those other things--extracurriculars, awards, AP tests, etc...because lots of kids with 4.0's and 1600s will apply to MIT and other top schools. You need to be able to compete with them in another arena.

But you should be able to get in to schools like Tufts, Georgetown, Wash U St. Louis, etc.

  5. Probably not. Almost everyone at MIT would fall into the top 2% of SAT or ACT scores. An exception would be if you have an 800 math and 800 math/science SATIIs but English was not your first language.

Also, for MIT regardless of stats, you will also need great math/science EC activities/awards/honors.
