If I had a B.Y.O.B (Bring Your Own Barbecue) barbecue...?

What would you bring? I'd probably bring chili...from my family's recipe.

It sounds like byob is a really cheap potluck where they dont even promise hotdogs ro hamburgers- you should see that friend less.

Anyway I would bring three bean salad, pasta salad or hummus and pita's. Probably some mini version of a dessert too.

A lot of people get upset if you don't call the person in charge and they tell you what to bring. So if somebody else brings lays and dip- they'll give you the stink eye.

So another salad never hurts if you want to fly under the picnic opression radar.

I wouldnt take chili. Its not a summer food. I would take potato salad and watermelon if I were doing sides and smoked sausage or brisket if I were taking meat.

Bring your own BBQ sounds like you should bring your own meat to throw on the grill.    When I go to a BBQ and need to just take a dish, I always take baked beans.  They are not expensive, and most everyone loves them.

For the summer, a nice big bowl of fresh fruit is always a hit.  Cut up watermelon, cantaloupe, grapes, strawberries, pineapple, and anything else you like.  Put it all into a large bowl and put the top of the pineapple into the center of the bowl for a decoration.  It looks festive and with the pineapple top in the middle, you will take home an empty bowl every time.

My husband and I do this all the time. Just be specific when inviting people because BYOB may have different meanings to others. We just had a BYOM party not too long ago. (bring your own meat) My husband and I are dieting and so we eat a lot of chicken or turkey burgers, but that doesn't mean the rest of the family wanted that. It worked out perfect!
