If I have 100J = (Cp(cal) x 50K) + 1250kHow do I isolate Cp(cal)?

  1. total Joules = Cal dH    &  other dH in the cal

    the problem is.... the total on the left needs to be greater than the "other dH"  of the stuff in the calorimeter, other wise you get a minus Cp, (& they they don't come in minus)

    =======================

    100Joules = (Cp(cal) x 50K) + 1250 Joules

    (Cp(cal) x 50K) =  100Joules - 1250 Joules

    (Cp(cal) x 50K) =   - 1150 Joules

    Cp(cal) =   - 1150 Joules / 50K

    Cp = -23Joules / K

    that's not the answer we want, so recheck the data & plug the numbers through again
