If I have 2 male neutered cats will they spray to mark their territory?

I am going to adopt 2 kittens, considering 2 males, they will be neutered house cats. Should I be concerned about spraying to mark their territory? Would I be better off to adopt one male and one female, or two females?

  1. If they are neutered before they reach sexual maturity, the likelihood of spraying is minimal.  But there are a couple of caveats.  One, get a hooded litter box.  Some go into the litter box, "point and shoot".  Better to run down the side, than off the wall.   The other thing is that if they get into a dispute over which cat is alpha, there is the potential of marking a defensive territory.  That is not common, but can happen.

Most people have no marking territory problems, but it can happen, and having a male and female thinking that the bigger male will always be alpha is not a guarantee.

And while I grew up with male cats who never marked, I have females currently, and I have a defensive marker.  Fortunately, it is usually the same spot, so it is protected with puppy training pads, as one spot is in front of one of the litter pans.

  2. probably

  3. As long as they are neutered you should be ok.  I have 3 male cats in my house and haven't had any problems.

  4. if they are neutred, they dont spray to mark their territory!!!

  5. unfortunitly yes.

  6. if they are neutered, they will not spray. the s*x of the kittens does not matter, as long as you adopt them at the same time

  7. If these are the only cats in your household they should be fine and won't spray. If they are from the same litter then any combination of sexes should be fine. If you are introducing them into a household with other cats then they could spray if they do not feel settled and need to mark their territory even if they have been neutered.

  8. My cat was neutered at 4 months and he sprays! He is now 9!

  9. Neutered house cats do not spray.

  10. YES unfortunately.. d**n cats mine do it too!!

  11. they wont...they're neutered...but make sure they know where the litter box is

  12. if they are neutred before they start spraying i do believe they wont spray . . . .my male cats that are fixed do not spray (they are also out side in the summer and inside in the winter). . . i've never had a problem with spraying from neutered male cats. but that may just be me and my cats.

note : i perfer male cats b/c they seem to have more personality. .. but i like both, i usually (when i go to the pound) get a cat that has a personality simlar to mine.

i have 13 cats atm and 7 of them are kittens. . . they havent sprayed but i am getting them fixed as soon as possible so i wont have to worry about spraying males.

  13. if they go is a litter box than only out side
