HDTV is a Sony Bravia

current DVD/VHS combo player is a Samsung

amplified HDTV antenna is from Radioshack

looking to buy Magnavox DVR/VCR with digital tuner

current set up is that the antenna sends signal to the DVD/VHS player and the player sends signal to the HDTV.

am i correct in assuming i will not need a converter box if i switch the player to the new player with the digital tuner?

also would it be better to switch out the players or to keep the current set up and place the converter box between the antenna and the current player?

i don't record any TV programs and i rarely watch TV in the beginning. having a combo unit is important as i have many VHS tapes that i'd like to continue to be able to watch.

i just want to make sure i'll still be able to watch TV after the switch in Feb 2009

  1. no you are OK

  2. Since you already have the HD Tuner then you are ok.  The box is only needed when there is no tuner involved.
