If I have a Kicker CompVR 10" at 400 watts rms and 800 watts max, what kind of amp should I use to power it?

Should I just have enough power to get it up to Rms or should I have an amp that can power 800 watts?

I'm new to all this and don't really know that much about it, so I'm looking for some suggestions, if you have that sub, what amp are you running it with?

Thanks

  1. i agree 100% with jtheo89. I have a alpine amp and love it, and the one he mentioned is a perfect match.

  2. i have a comp vr 10" with dual 2ohm voice coils and i run it off an old school rockford fosgate punch 200x2 trans ana amp.

the amp pumps out 400watts x 1 bridged at 12.2volts. the 800watts the cvr could handle is at max so half of that, 400watts rms, would be just right for it.

and always remember to always use both voice coils of the cvr as kicker recommends.

  3. I would run a kicker zx300.1.  Most of the time they put out about 330 watts to 400.  You could also do a 400.1 but nothing bigger than that would be wise.

Alpine are really nice Amp's, they run cool and you will find that there is no feed back.  Run it at 1 OHM and you will do just find, will sound mint.

  5. You need to get an amp according to RMS wattage.  Max power is really a useless way of measuring power of a sub because it only tells you how much the sub can handle for a short amount of time.  RMS tells you how much the sub can handle for a continuous amount of time.  Therefore, I would get an amp that has a RMS of 400 watts.  I would go for Alpine since they make some of the best amps.  They produce clean bass.  I know this because I have an Alpine MRP-M450 mono amp powering my Kicker CompVT 10."  And by the way, Kicker makes some of the best subs...good choice.
