If I have a prepared essay to write in a 40 minute exam, how long can it be so I have time to write it? (ave)?

I have average writing speed, and do not have time to actually handwrite the essay to test it. Just an estimate is ok.. cheers

Well, I wouldn't go overboard, like maybe a page to a page and a half hand written... or double spaced.   if you've ever taken one of these things before then you know how much time it takes you to write.  If you can have it fully memorized then go longer, if you'll have to try to recall it, decide whether that will cause you to write less or take time to remember it.  If you have 40 minutes and this is for a teacher or some standardized test, they're not going to expect much over a page or a page and a half, probably not more than two at most.  Whatever you feel most comfortable with is best
