  1. Of course you can get rid of your land line phone.  You need Voip, which is making calls thru your internet.  I have Voip and it's $24.95 and I can make unlimited calls anywhere in the U.S., Canada, Puerto Rico, U.S. Virgin Islands, United Kingdom, Ireland, Italy, Spain, France and China! I'll never go back to landline again.  You should check out this website, go to 'products', then 'voip'.

  2. In theory yes.  However, many phone companies have pricing packages that take away the financial advantage of dropping the traditional phone.  It may be more advantageous to have the cheapest phone package plus the DSL and then figure what is cheapest way to handle long distance.

If you had a cable modem, yes it would be cheaper to drop the phone and use vonage or similar for the phone.

  3. It depends of the carrier. What you are wanting is called a "dry-loop" which most carriers (including mine) do not allow. If your carrier offers that service then you are in luck.
