If I have an exhaust leak and they tell me I need to replace the whole pipe, how much will that be?

I am going to Midas tomorrow, only because I need it done by tomorrow, although I would prefer to go somewhere else. I have a small leak under the emergency break area and just want to know how much roughly it would cost total, or an estimate on something like this if they say the whole thing needs to be replaces. Firstly, what is the whole thing? If the whole thing is the whole pipe, then please let give me a very general estimate how much you think it may be.

My car is a 2006 Dodge Stratus.

Thanks!

  1. they are probably talking about the intermediate pipe, but if it,s just a hole and the rest of the pipe is still good, go to auto zone and get a reducer and 2 clamps and cut the pipe and piece it back together.

  2. I doubt you need the whole pipe unless you got it bent by running something over. To cut a section out and weld another section in figure 100-150 dollars. I am not familar with midas or meinekee but see if they offer free estimates and see what they say. Any place that wants to sell you everything cat back is a rip off, they say its all welded together so it all needs to be replaced at once, if that is the case ask them to show you what part is bad, and see if they can just fabricate a section of pipe for you without replacing everything. If just one section is bad and they arent willing to replace the bad section, find a custom exhaust shop, they will be more than happy to do it for way cheaper.

  3. Most of the time we start at the converter and replace the extension pipe muffler and tail pipe, you have to pay for hangers, rubber parts and any other mounting hardware maybe 250.00$
