If I have dual citizenship already, can I renounce only one citizenship when becoming German?

I have dual citizenship already. If I marry and move to Germany and eventually become a citizen there, they require me to renounce my former citizenship.

Is there anyway to renounce only one of them? Would they even find out I had another one...?

  1. I have German, British AND Irish citizenships. I have just .Tha last German Citizen Act of 1999 was very contraversial because it tried to do two opposites. It mafde getting citizenship nmush easier. For instance, the child of foreign parents is a German citizen if one of the parents has lived in Germany for at least 10 years. It also said that a foreign citizenship should be given up by a German citizen, but that only applies if living in Germany.Meaning if living anywhere else no need. Sooner or later there will be a new law coming, allowing dual citizenship in line with most other European states. Otherwise the free movement of Labour and movements to the immigrant nations will create some very complex legal headaches in Germany.

Of course, they will never know if you have renounced or not...unless you tell them.
