I'm from Chicago, so I want a neighborhood with plenty of activities, nice sights, and good food.

  1. Society Hill or Queen Village. If you don't want to be downtown, then Chestnut Hill.

  2. olde city is in center city. it is near bars and resturants and there are a lot of young professionals. likewise the other side of town near rittenhouse square is equally fun for young professionals with bars and resturants (tho not as crazy as olde city) but has a lot more shopping areas during the day. basically everywhere in center city is good and accessible. (note-12-16ish on lombard-chestnut ish is the gayborhood marked by rainbow flags on the street signs although its not only for the g*y commmunity)

  3. Society Hill is the place to be. It's between Center City and Old City. It's the historic district...south of Chestnut Street and north of South Street, west of the Delaware River to Washington Square (6th Street). It's quiet, safe and near everything.

    * live and work here

  4. Hi, have you considered manayunk?

  5. If money is no object, Center City is THE place to be.  Bars, restaurants, shopping, shows, etc abound downtown.  But if you want to save a few bucks on housing for all the other things you might want to do, Olde City should be your choice.  Also try the Fairmount and Spring Garden areas.  They are comparable to Olde City, and Fairmount Ave is a happening place.

    I just came back from a visit to Chicago, and compared to CHI, Phila is a small town.  It's more walkable than CHI, but the people aren't nearly as friendly as in the midwest.
