Question:

If I have not breastfed for three months, is it too late to try again?

I know I have previously asked a relactating question on here, but I am also wondering this: If I produce just a tiny bit of colostrum still, would it be beneficial to my baby if I can get him to nurse even for a minute? Or would he get anything out of it at all? Thanks! (By the way he is 4 1/2 months old

  1. Give it a go. At this stage it's not colostrum, just normal milk. There may not be much of it, but you can fix that. As someone else said, there are medications that can help increase your milk supply. Also, fennel and fenugreek (culinary herbs available from most supermarkets) can help increase supply. Just take a half a teaspoon of each steeped in hot water a few times a day. Avoid the herb sage as this will dry you up.

Contact La Leche or the Australian Breastfeeding Association (depending on where you live) for more info and advice. Both sites have good articles worth reading no matter where you live.

The main challenge I can see is teaching your baby to breastfeed again. S/he may have gotten used to the bottle, but it's worth a try.

    Good luck!

  2. with constant nursing and pumping you could bring your milk supply back up. You would have to do this pretty much all day look up power pumping. I am not sure if you would ever get your full supply back but if you are willing to try I say go for it! look for a le Leach group near you for help

  3. It is too late very likely.  You keep producing a lil bit of the milk for like a year just about but you passed up the chance of actually breast feeding.

  4. I'm pretty sure you have waited too late. Ask your doctor.

  5. he probably wouldnt be able to live off of it or get full off it, but the3 colostrum has antibodies in it so yeah give it 2 him!

  6. You could try - I would contact a lactation consult they can give you a prescription for a medication that will help to increase your milk supply.
