If I have settled a debt after it was turned to collections, can it be removed from my credit report?

The collection agency assured me that I could use the settlement letter to send to the 3 credit reporting agencies, and that it would be removed? Is this true? What places should I contact first?

  1. yes it can

    go to www.agdebtconsultation.com

They do free debt consultations and also fix credit

    there debt consultations are free

  2. No, it won't be removed.  It will show up on your credit report as a debt that went to collections and then was settled.  You could have written the credit reporting agencies and asked to have it removed based on it not being your debt if you didn't settle it, but by settling the debt you acknowledged it, so now you're stuck.  Don't ever listen to collection agencies.  They do and say whatever they can to get you to pay.  Debt collectors are paid a salary plus a commission on the debt they are able to collect.

  3. It can only be removed after 7 years.  You've been had by the collection agency - all they want is their money!

  4. Total Debt Solutions and their affiliates offer many solutions from formal and affordable credit repair to tradeline programs.  They also specialize in debt settlement to get you out for less on past due bills.  Check out the source website and their free evaluation form for more info.  Good luck.

  5. Since you did not negotiate a "pay for delete" agreement with the creditor before settling, it will most likely be marked as "settled".
