Question:

If I have some stock certificates (in a reall company) how can I sell them without a broker?

Thank you for your answers - I should probably mention - so you don't think I'm totally cheep that these were my fathers and is all the money my mother (92) has so I just want to maximize what she gets for it.

  1. You cannot.

    Unless the company transfer agent will buy them back from you.

    (You must have a registered agent to trade stock.  Only they can legally trade registered assets)


  2. If the company is a publically traded company, you must sell the stock through a registered broker/dealer

    If the company is not publically traded, you will have to contact the company, since there is no public market.

    If the stock has a "legend" accross the front of the certificate (a red lettering stating "not registered") you must go back to the company

  3. It will cost you less than $13 to sell these shares through a broker. I can't think of a better way.....................................
