  1. both Bill and Jim are correct

manufactures do make their products to match each other (for example: you may have a amp that's frequency adjustments only go down to a certain frequency and your subs made by a different manufacture could have an even lower frequency range)

as a rule if you mix and match try to always get CEA-compliant brands because they are built to certain standards (the amp and/or radio produces or exceeds the advertised RMS wattage with minimum distortion and the speakers and/or subs can handle their advertised RMS wattage with minimum distortion)

here are the top CEA-compliant brands

    Alpine

    Bazooka

    Blaupunkt

    Clarion

    Eclipse

    Infinity

    JBL

    JL Audio

    Kenwood

    Kicker

    MTX

    Pioneer

    Polk Audio

    Rockford Fosgate

    Sony

  2. most of the time yes they will because the manufactures design mostly all of there products to be used with their own products. what you could do to find out is go to your local audio store like bust buy or circuit city and they have a whole bunch of different audio products set up so you could mix and match the head decks with the speakers with the sub woofers and that way you could find out for yourself what would sound the best.

  3. no,a speaker cannot tell what brand amp is powering it. but do not go for a cheap amp cause then you will get cheap sound. when buying an amp match up the rms power rating from the speaker to the amp as best you can but get an amp with a little but more power then your speakers can handle. only like 10-15% more.
