  1. That depends on your lifestyle. Do you often travel away from a VA hospital? If so, it might be advantageous. If you do have Part B you could also get a Medicare Advantage plan (Part C). These plans are available in many parts of the country for a $0 premium and it will give you more doctor choices. Also, VA doctors may have a long wait to get an appointment. Many times private doctors will be able to see you quicker.

    If you are taking any medications you might also look into a Part D plan, which you can get even if you only have Part A. I have many clients who have VA benefits who also have a Part D because their total cost for the premium and co-pays is less than getting the medication through the VA. It may also be more convenient to get your medications at your local drug store.
