I live in New Jersey. I will probably raise my kids either here or in Missouri.

  1. Every state is different but You do not have to get certified.

I am homeschooling my son and the only thing I know was a requirement is that the parent has to have a High School Diploma or GED to be able to teach at home.

  2. Find a local home school support group and ask them. Here in Texas there are no degrees required you just must be doing a certified curriculum(you get to choose it) and you have to really be having school.

I homeschooled for years and loved it. My kids excelled and even skipped grades because they were so advanced. I loved the time with them and they learned so much.

  3. You do not have to be certified to educate your own children anywhere in the US (or Australia or any other place I've ever heard of!). The child's birth certificate is all the certification you need.

Your children's education is, legally, your responsibility; you can either employ a school to educate them on your behalf or you can sack/fire the school district and do the job yourself.

Neither Missouri nor NJ has any 'standards' your kids need to meet, nor any required testing.

Missouri requires 1,000 hours of homeschool per year incl. 400 hours on their 'required subjects' (reading, maths, social studies, language arts and science); that you keep certain records etc.

New Jersey has very few, if any, homeschooling requirements.

  4. The standards they have to meet vary by state; what state do you live in?  If you can let us know that, we can point you to the regulations.

You do not have to be certified in any state.  Most only require a high school diploma or GED, while others have options for enrollment in an umbrella school.

Here are the laws for New Jersey http://www.hslda.org/laws/analysis/New_J... and for Missouri http://www.hslda.org/laws/analysis/Misso... .  Hope that helps!

  5. Try connections academy or k12.com. They are tutition free, considered a public school except you do it at home and they are accredited. You just have to be your childs leaning coach. You don't have to get certified if you do something like this. It is just as they were in a regular school.
