  1. Three batteries in series gives higher voltage.

BUT:  because V = IR,  if you connect that 3-battery set to the same circuit, you will get more current too.

  2. Batteries have an effective internal resistance that limits the amount of current each battery can deliver.  If you connect three batteries in series, the voltages of the three batteries will add in series but so will the internal resistance.  As a result, you will then get the same current output as a single battery would supply.

You can also connect the batteries in parallel, allowing their current outputs to add.  However, if you do this, you must also ensure that they all produce the same voltage.  Otherwise, the one with the highest voltage will supply more than its share of the current and, if the mismatch is great enough, the lowest battery will actually divert current from the load.  Both of these faulty conditions can result in serious safety hazards - overheating the overloaded battery and generation of explosive gases in the one being force-charged.  Connecting high-current batteries in parallel is not a project to be taken lightly!

  3. Hooking batteries in parallel will give you more amps and hooking them up in series will increase your voltage. Mixing parallel and series will increase both the amp and voltage.

  4. Batteries in series increase the volts.

Batteries in parallel increase the amps.

  5. 3 batteries in series increase volts and if placed in parallel, that would increase amps
