Basically my comp doesn't have enough power for the new video card I want. I was wondering if i install more power say my comp is at 300 and i bump it up to 550? Will that damage my pc in any way? Or will it just take what it needs?

  1. No, assuming you aren't over clocking.  Your computer well only USE what power it needs,  your motherboard isn't going to go GRAB that much power.

It changes if you try to over clock thing and tell it to use more power, then you could have problems.

  2. It will only supply what is needed.

A big supply will run cooler and longer than a small power supply with the same load.
