After I graduate from Texas A&M ROTC, I'll commission as a Second Lieutenant in Ranger School. What I want to know is how the leadership will work and will I be respected by the men?

  1. No...

2nd Lt's don't get respect. Your first year or so will be tough.

    But that's the life.

  2. Sorry to say but here at my unit, butter bars dont get very much respect ranger or no ranger. It really depends on what kind of O you are.You come in all cocky and trying to change a bunch of stuff in the platoon and make a bunch of rules, you are not going to be a respected or liked guy. However, you come in with the "im still a new guy and want to learn additude" and you will work well with your PSG and you will be more respected.Thats just a personal opinion

  3. You cannot join the "Rangers" after ROTC. You will be required to be an Infantry officer and serve in a regular Army unit for a little while.

Secondly, you are not going to commission anything in Ranger School.

I think you are a little mistaken on the facts and need to go back to school.

But just for the sake of this post... I will outline things for you on a very basic level.

Ranger School is a TRADOC leadership course that teaches combat leadership values. It is a School. It has nothing to do with being a Ranger. It just makes you Ranger qualified.

The 75th Ranger Regiment is a Special Operations unit that operates under USSOC. This is where real Rangers are. And you cannot get there straight from ROTC (you must serve as an officer in a regular army unit for awhile before you can even apply for the 75th). The 75th Ranger Regiment has nothing to do with Ranger School.

Like I said above, if your MOS is Infanty officer, you will be required to attend Ranger School. There are NO promotions there. It's a school, not a unit. And just because you attend Ranger School or graduate doesn't make you a Ranger.

Respected by who? Ranger School cadre? Or whatever unit you are going to? You're the new guy, commission or not. Just make sure you graduate.

And please research this a little more, you're making yourself sound stupid on here.

  4. They will respect you to your face, but real respect has to be earned. Rule #1 is take care of your people. Always take care of your people. Your people come before anything else. Do that and don't be an incompetent boob, and they'll grow to respect you.
