I left it on high at 9:30 this morning, it's impossible for me to be home until 5:30 today, will this start a fire? What will happen?

  1. depends on the stove, mine cools down and doesnt let it pass a certain temp

  2. When all the water boils out it could overheat the kettle and melt it into the burner, maybe causing a fire. An iron kettle may just get red hot and stay that way.  I wouldn't take a chance on leaving it.

  3. well maybe...  well first, WHY DO YOU HAVE A POT OF BOILING WATER ON FOR 9 HOURS????????????? it can start a fire on your house, so its best if its kept on low

  4. CALL THE FIRE BRIGADE NOW

  5. The water will boil off.  Then the pot will get superheated and perhaps cause a fire depending on how closely things were placed to it on the stove.

  6. Uhh, as long as the water doesn't completely evaporate you're fine -- but it probably will. Yeah, I would be worried. Plus it's a big waste of energy AKA money.

  7. if its an aluminum pan yes but not a iron skillet

  8. Usually if you leave an empty pan on the oven it ends up flying off.  As long as it doesn't land on anything combustible, you should be ok.

  9. As long as the water doesn't completely evaporate you're fine -- but it probably will. .depending on size of the pot and quantity of water.
