  1. How about you put it on at the beginning of your trip and as soon as you hit your confort level, you turn it off? Best of both world.

  2. Yes and no. In places where there is heavy traffic, hence, you cannot drive fast, it is recommended that you turn off you a/c.

When driving in highways, it is recommended that you turn on your a/c. Driving in highway with windows open will increase  drag, hence, more gas consumption.

  3. For best MPG:

HWY speed - AC on and window up.

STREET speed - AC off and window down.

The BEST - AC OFF and window UP.

I was out today and was just going for a short drive. The above was kind of moot because it was so hot I could not drive with the AC off (which I normally prefer - regardless of cost).

    Good Luck...

  4. kinda but not a lot, there is really no point

  5. It is nigh summer. .It is 100+ degrees here in S. California. .If you have a/c, use it. .Not using it, is inviting disaster. .A body will overheat very quickly in a vehicle. .People, especially small kids, have been known to die because of overheating in a vehicle - usually while parked.

The a/c is a minor load on the engine during normal driving. .The only time to turn it off while driving is when you' re going uphill for an extended distance. .There are usually signs posted to remind you.

As a rule, when it gets above 85, keep the a/c on. .Otherwise, it is optional.

  6. would you shut it off and sweat ur ****'s off to gain 1 mpg? not me i paid 1200 dollars for AC ..nothing in life is free...would u turn the heat off in your house in winter to save fuel? no,,,, same for me in the car...on hyway theres no differnce anyway
