If I leave the US region, will I still have internet connection on my phone?

I live in the states and I'm planning to leave for canada soon. I also want to be able to use my phone to chat online, etc.

You can while roaming. Check with your provider if you can go online while roaming.

That would require a VERY long extension cord.  Probably not a good idea.

Why not get a mobile phone instead?
