If I lie about my grades to get a good student discount with my car insurance, does it matter. Do they check?

If I submit an altered grade transcript to the car insurance company looking to get a good student dicount, do I have to worry about them calling the school to check. Is this a realistic concern. If they do, what are the real consquences?

  1. I don't know if they check or not, but would you really want to chance insurance fraud?

  2. I think the word for it is "insurance fraud".  If you ever want to get a job handling money from cashing out a store register, working at a bank, or customer service in a loan office, this may be insurmountable.  Not to mention any fines or jail time you might do.

On the other hand, if you only want to sweep floors, finish dry wall, or drive a truck, this would only be considered a huge character flaw that you would have to explain every time you applied for a job.  If limiting your future job opportunities, doing jail time, and paying a fine is worth the 10% discount now, then go ahead.

  3. They usually want an offical grade transcript, taken directly from the school, therefore your altered one won't be acceptable, because it won't be offical anyway.

Real consequences? If you don't just lose your insurance and get sued, the real consequence is called prison for insurance fraud.

  4. yes they get transcripts of your grades.

  5. It's called insurance fraud, and it's against the law whether you get caught or not.

    All the best to you.

  6. first, they may call the school and check.

However, if they find out you've lied on your application, they can cancel your coverage, sue you for damages, file criminal charges for insurance fraud, and refuse to pay on any claims you make.

Don't do it.  The few bucks you save aren't worth the risks of scamming an insurance company.
