Sorry, I do not know the tax laws for Massachusetts or New Hampshire.  You will have to check the state tax instructions for both states.  Look for a reciprocal agreement between the states.  Look at the Massachusetts non-resident form and instructions.  Look for a credit for taxes paid to other states on the New Hampshire form and instructions.

In Michigan, if you live in Michigan and work in Ohio, then you fill out a Michigan return and pay Michigan income taxes, but don't have to pay Ohio taxes because they have a reciprocal agreement.  If you live in Ohio, and work in Michigan, then you pay Ohio taxes, and don't have any Michigan taxes.

Reciprocal agreements are usually between neighboring states.  But each state/state situation is different.

For some states, you have to pay state income taxes as a non-resident for the wages you earned in that state - then you get a credit against the tax bill you owe for your resident state.  Each state has their own set of tax laws.  California has really strange laws regarding residency - probably because of all those high income movie stars who may work in CA eight months a year, but claim residency in Italy because they own a villa there...
