If I lose my first school metrocard and get a new one is it still active?

I live pretty far from the school and only have half fare. If my friend gives me his and says he lost it will the old metro still work?

No it wont...on the back of the metro card there is a bunch of numbers...once your friend reports his missing the school will deactive the card so no one may use the card for non school use
