  1. In some places it is legal to do this, some it is not. Most states look at this as if you were going to a pharmacy and asking the pharmacist to duplicate a pill that you have and do not have a current RX for. I know it seams silly but it is the same laws because it is a prescriptive item.  What you need to understand is that a prescription can be off by a certain amount by law. Most machines are not 100% accurate and neither are human beings. Duplicating what they see in your glasses now runs the risk of being off more than what would be legal from your original RX. By ANSI and FDA rules an RX has to be accurate to a certain percentage to be legal to dispense. What if yours were off by a bit, and then the new glasses were made just a little off yet again. It is just never a really good idea to do and most professional people understand this. If it is an absolute emergency and you have nothing left to wear, they might do it for you, or if they are money hungry and just want the sale. An RX for glasses is good for 2 years. If your last eye exam was within two years, then get the rx faxed to your optician to have glasses made. If it is over 2 years old you really need a new RX done by the doctor.  I hope this info helps you and that you get your glasses taken care of! Have a great weekend!

  2. You can just have the place where you are getting your glasses from call your eye doc to get the prescription.

  3. If you lost the prescription, call the doctor for a copy.  Or the optician can phone the first doctor to get it.

  4. Yes they can get them off the lens. But whomever performed the exam is required to keep it on file for 2 years. That is how long a lens script for eye glasses is good for. contact script only lasts a year.

You can call them and request a copy. They are required to give it to you.

  5. If you go to the doctor who did the eye exam, they will have a record of the prescription.  Good Luck!

  6. Most reputable opticians will require a recent prescription, within the last year.

Yes they have the equipment to know from looking at your lenses but if they will is another matter.

Call and ask to save yourself a drive, what you tell them is your business. They may ask you to contact your last eye doctor because they keep those sorts of records and must release them to you.
