  1. Most single people under 65 don't have to file a return unless you earn 8750 but here are some other examples where you would be required to file.

If you received $1 in Advanced Earned Income Credit from your employer you must file a return.

If you earned 108.28 from a church you must file a return

If you had a net income from self employment of at least 400 you must file a return.

If you are a dependent and have 800 in unearned income or 5350 in earned income you must file a return.

  2. If you are a dependent, yes.

If you have self employed or independent contractor income of $400 or more, yes.

For single non dependent, the filing requirement starts with $8,750.

  3. Maybe.  If you are a dependent, you do.  If you have $400 or more of income from self employment or as an independent contractor, you do.  There are a few other situations where you do.

But if you are single, not a dependent, and any income you earned from working is on a W-2, then you don't have to file if your income is under $8750 for 2007, or $8950 for 2008.
