Hi! I'm taking a business trip to Germany. The schedule's a bit tight on the way home - I fly Lufthansa from Frankfurt to JFK, and I have about 2 hours to connect to JetBlue for a flight back home. I'm a bit worried that I may miss my JetBlue flight, if customs takes some time. Even though I've flown a lot (not internationally) I am wondering, if I miss my JetBlue flight, what happens to my checked baggage?

  1. You'll have your bags with you when you clear customs at JFK, US Customs requires people entering the US to clear customs at their first point of entry into the US. Since jetBlue and Lufthansa are not partner airlines, you probably will have to check in for your flight on jetBlue at JFK  and even if you don't have to, you should know at that time whether to check your bags in or drop them off at at the collection point for passengers connecting to domestic flights.

  2. About 2 weeks later Jetblue will send it to you by mail if you're lucky. Korean air did that to me.
